ADVANCED PROBLEM SOLVING PROGRAM FOR CLASSES 11 AND 12 2017 – 2018
Course Aim
To prepare students for the highest level of problem solving in Physics, only problems which are categorized for JEE Advanced will be discussed and solved during these classes. Solving such problems requires a specific “way of looking” at them, and trying to solve them not by brute force, but with the help of refined tactics; a skill that will be generated only if the students are continuously exposed to problems which will seem “unsolvable” by first look, but will slowly “unravel” with the help of equations and concepts which they already know, but they do not realize that they can be connected into a “single string” to solve the problem. Students interested in joining this course must realize that the “expanse” of Physics is too great to be just “read in a book”.
Course Timings
Class 11 : Saturday – 2:00PM – 4:00PM; CLASS 12: Saturday 6:00PM 9:00PM
Course Structure
The Advanced Problem Solving Program will stretch over 27 weeks, out of which 24 weeks will be classes, and 3 weeks will be examinations. Each course will be separated into three units, each comprising of 8 classes and 1 examination at the end. Please refer to Course Syllabus mentioned below for details.
Course Material
Students will be provided with booklets at the start of each course unit, which will contain Equations, Theories and Concepts, Problems with detailed solutions and also Problems with only answers. The topics covered in those booklets will be the syllabus to be covered in the 8 classes of that unit. The problems with detailed solutions are meant for practice by the students, while the problems with only answers will be discussed and solved during the classes.
Course flexibility
The dates of the classes are not fixed, although the day and time of the classes will remain fixed. The dates will be decided avoiding BDMI school examinations and other compulsory holidays (i.e. Durga Puja and bandhs), following the Week numbers mentioned in the Course syllabus below. Also, a student can choose units of the course they want to attend (i.e. it is not compulsory to attend all three units). Class 12 students can also attend Class 11 units for revision. Interested Class 12 students will have to register for units of 8 classes and 1 examination and can attend any 8 classes from the Class 11 course and appear for any 1 of Class 11 examinations along with the Class 11 students. This can be extended by registering for multiple units.
Course eligibility
Anyone can join this course. This will be the only course that will be available for students outside of Aspirations (i.e. not attending the regular Boards level classes), irrespective of the school Board of the student (i.e. ISC and WB Boards students are also eligible). Also passout students preparing solely for Entrance examinations are eligible.
